You may begin your visit to the park at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, open from May 1
through October 31. A free orientation film is shown every half-hour. Free literature and sales
items are on display and give details about motor vehicle, bicycle, and hiking routes, as well
as the cultural and natural history of the area. When you arrive in the park, ask for a schedule
of Ranger led activities (mid-june-early October) that includes talks, walks, hikes, boat
Cruises, and evening programs. Program schedules are not available by mail. Children 8 years
or older can participate in the Junior Ranger program during the summer. Some roads, facilities and services are closed during the winter months (November-April). During this time you may obtain information at Park Headquarters located on Highway 233 three miles west
of Bar Harbor.
CAMPING
3 five miles south ty of Bar Harbor; or Seawall, located on Route 102A four miles south of Southwest Harbor. All park campsites are situated in woods, within a 10 minute walk of the ocean. One vehicle, 6 people, and 2 small tents or one large tent are allowed at a campsite. Designated campsites accommodate trailers up to 35 feet. Neither campground has utility hook-ups. From early spring to late fall, the campgrounds provide comfort stations, cold running water, dump station, picnic tables, fire rings and water faucets. Showers and a camping supply store are within 1/2- mile of both campgrounds. Blackwoods remains open during the off season. Facilities are limited to picnic tables, fire rings, pit toilets, and a hand pump for drinking water.
If you wish to camp at Blackwoods Campground from June 15-September 15, you may make your reservation through the Mistix/Destinet reservation system no earlier than 56 days before the date you wish to camp. VISA, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Reservations may also be made by writing to: Mistix/Destinet, 9450 Carroll Park Drive, San Diego, CA 92121-2256. Include dates, number of people, type of camping equipment, and enclose payment. When making a reservation, you are simply securing a space in the campground; it's impossible to reserve a specific site or adjoining sites. During the reservation period, Blackwoods campsites cost $14 per night per site. From mid-May to mid-June and from mid-September to mid-October, Blackwoods campsites cost $12. Fees vary during the off-season.

ENTRANCE FEES
The park entrance station is located north of Sand Beach on the Park Loop Road. The park entrance fee is $5 per private vehicle or $3 per person without a vehicle and valid for one week from the date purchased. The fee for tour groups is $3 per person. Several other passes are also available:
Acadia Annual Pass: $15. Good for entrance into Acadia for a year from date of purchase. Golden Eagle Passport: $25 annually. Good for entrance at all national parks, monuments, federal recreation areas for twelve months from date of purchase.
GoldenAge Passport: $10 one time fee. Must be a US citizen, 62 years or older. Provides entrance and half off on camping at all national parks, monuments, federal recreation areas Golden Access Passport: Free to all disabled US citizens. Provides entrance and half off on camping at all national parks, monuments, federal recreation areas.
The entrance station on the Park Loop Road will carry all passes.
Park Headquarters will carry all passes except the Acadia Annual Pass.
The Hulls Cove Visitor Center and the Sieur de Monts Spring Nature Center will carry only the Golden Access Passports.

The Park has no mail delivery service. Do not include Acadia National Park in the address.
WEATHER
You should arrive prepared for a wide variety of weather conditions. Summer temperatures vary from 45'F to 85'F, spring and fall temperatures from 30'F to 70'F. You may encounter rain and fog at any time, but we assure you that the sun does shine! Blackflies are most common during late May and early June. Winter temperatures vary from mid-30's F to below zero. Average annual snowfall is 60 inches.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Vermont Transit bus service operates between Bangor and Bar Harbor during the summer months. CaR (207) 288-3366 for current information. Commuter air service, Colgan Air, flies to Bar Harbor Airport, 10 miles from
Bar Harbor. Call (207) 667-7171 for a schedule. Although the park operates no public transportation, Downeast Transportation runs a loc-al which connects Mount Desert Island towns and Ellsworth. The towns of Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, and Northeast Harbor have taxi service.
